ABOUT Angela Davis

Angela Davis is an accomplished R&B / Soul artist who sings with the grace of Jill Scott and the flair of Jennifer Hudson. Audiences everywhere are inspired by her exceptional vocal skills and her wonderful stage presence. Angela's story begins with the Renaissance High School Varsity Choir in Detroit where she sang various genres of music from classical to gospel, earned numerous awards, toured across the country and was first recorded. Soon afterwards, she began writing and arranging her own songs. An artist was born. College beckoned next and she spent four years at the prestigious University of Michigan where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and performed on music and theatrical stages.

 

It would provide her with the experience, focus and work ethic needed for her future music career. After college, Angela hit the stage performing in an effort to build a first rate reputation as a singer and brand herself among the Best. Since then, Angela has performed at some of the most popular music venues in Detroit - including Baker's Keyboard Lounge, The Jazz Club, The Music Hall Jazz Cafe, Bert's Motown Lounge, Ignite at the MGM Grand Casino, Campus Martius Park, and Arthea Frankin Amphitheatre. 

 



Angela has sung alongside some great vocalists like Alexander O'Neal, Cherrelle, Penny Wells, Misty Love, Howard Hewitt, and SoulSinger J Tait. She has performed with noted musicians like Detroit Hall of Fame saxophonist, Duane Parham, and legendary Detroit keyboardist, Al McKenzie. One of Angela's finest accomplishments was being voted "R&B Female Vocalist of the Year" at the 2013 Detroit Black Music Awards ceremonies. It was a great honor to get the respect of her many fans and fellow members of the Detroit Music Community who chose her for this prestigious award. It placed her in a very elite class of Detroit singers. 

In the summer of 2015, Angela competed against 400 other local singers for one of five coveted spots in the WDIV-TV "Super Singer Contest" show which was televised "live" during The Ford Fireworks Show on the Detroit riverfront. The judges selected her for the Final Two after a head-to head competition. In the Finale she sang the famed Etta James version of "At Last" and brought down the house. Her soulful rendition garnered her nearly 80% of the online vote and the title of "Detroit's Super Singer". Over 300,000 people viewed her performance and victory. It was a Magical Musical Media Moment.
